The Educational System is overseen by the HEC of Pakistan including Teaching quality, Funding & Research Outputs. HEC recognizes over 175 Public and Private Educational Institutes in Pakistan. (According to webometrics, a total of 347 universities in Pakistan).

How the Universities are Ranked
There are few methods Universities are ranked. By meeting the criteria of being Chartered, Licensed, or Accredited by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
By offering at least four-year bachelor or under-graduate degrees or Master/Post Graduate-degrees.
By delivering courses primarily in a traditional education system.
There are more than 177 Universities in Pakistan offering these programs. Out of these 177 Universities 38 in Karachi, 29 in Lahore, 19 in Islamabad, 13 in Peshawar, 5 in Faisalabad and the rest 73 Universities exist across Pakistan.

Rankings are debatable subjects all over the world as there are several Research groups and International Associations involve in different methods of Ranking. COMSATS has had 07 physical campuses, with 1.17 million Library books with more than 32,000 students enrolled (as of spring 2019). COMSATS was proudly founded by Dr Abdus-Salam (shared Nobel Prize in Physics in 1979). UET was started in 1921 as ‘Mughalpura Technical College’ and became ‘Maclagan Engineering College’ in 1923 and offered courses of study in only two disciplines, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. UET is located near the Shalimar Gardens, G.T. Road Lahore. In 1972, the university was renamed as the University of Engineering & Technology. UET was the first and only educational institute in Pakistan established its own Power Generation Unit of 2 (later enhanced to 3) Megawatts. At present, UET has three satellite campuses (Faisalabad, Kala-Shah-Kaku, and Rachna College). One of the most salient features of UET is its Athletic and Recreational activities. Institute of Business Administration (IBA) was established in 1955 with the help of Pennsylvania University. Later on, prominent American professors were assigned to IBA from the University of Southern California. In the beginning, IBA offered its Master of Business Administration program (MBA) for day scholars and an Evening program was offered for working executives in 1957. A three-year Bachelor Business Administration (Honors) was introduced in 1982 which has now been upgraded to a four-year BBA (Honors). In 1983, IBA started offering BS, MS in Computer Science, and PhD programs in collaboration with IBM Pakistan. IBA was elevated to degree awarding institute by the Sindh Assembly in 1994 and a rapid increase in the number of Business Schools IBA never decrease the quality of education and maintained as the Number 1 institute in the region for Business & Commerce Studies. IBA introduced its first-weekend program as Executive – EMBA. IBA recently introduced (BS) Double Majors in Economics and Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Finance. The Centre for Executive Education (CEE) has a strategic partnership with the Indian School of Business, it conducts seminars and courses at Karachi. University of Karachi or Karachi University situated at University Road, Karachi, acronym KU, is the biggest university of Pakistan with over 1200 acres of land and established as a Federal University in 1951. For the first two years, KU remained as an examination centre/university for its affiliated colleges and after two years KU started its two Faculties, Science and Arts.
KU has now 8 extensive Faculties, five of these faculties, conducting classes of Islamic Learning, Management and Administrative Sciences, Arts, Science, Pharmacy, while under the faculties of Law, Medicine & Education KE examines the students admitted to its affiliated colleges. KU is a coeducational institute officially recognized by the HEC with an enrollment range above 41,000 students and 700 Teachers with over 53 Departments and 2 State-of-the-Art Research Centers. KU Library is one of the largest in Pakistan with a collection of over 360,000 books and over 110,000 copies of national and foreign periodicals and journals. The evening program of KU which was introduced in 1995 provides an opportunity for the professionals. KU Botanical Garden is the first of the kind in Pakistan. The construction of hostels in KU for the visiting faculties and scholars and completion of new blocks of the staff apartments were due to active encouragements KU received from the HEC and Vice-Chancellor of the university.

NED Government Engineering College was established in 1921. N stands for Nadirshaw E stands for Edulji D stands for Dinshaw. Like many other welfare projects in Karachi gifted/granted by the Parsi Community, NED University of Engineering & Technology is one of them.
100 years ago, a huge donation from Mr Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw for Rupees 150,000 (equals to millions today) and other donations from the Puribai and Becharbai Trust, Fatehchand Brothers Prince of Wales Engineering College was constructed on separate land. Later, this college was renamed in the memory of Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw. The NED College was remained affiliated by the University of Bombay since its inception and in 1947 it was taken over by the Government of Sindh and renamed as NED Government Engineering College.
The NED which we see today was shifted in 1964 from a congested area to an adjacent site to Karachi University and the project was carried out with the assistance of the World Bank (provides Rupees 118 million) and shifted to a 100 acres land at Country Club Road (now University Road). In 1977, NED Government Engineering College became the NED University of Engineering & Technology. The (late) Chairman of Hussein Group of Companies & Hussein Ebrahim Foundation Mr Latif Ebrahim Jamal (LEJ) donated Rupees 350 million for the faculty of Bio-Medical Engineering.
Engr Abul Kalam Library has grown to become one of the country’s leading academic libraries. NED has its own Internet facility managed by the IT department itself. Metro Area Network (MAN), a 37 KM Optical Fiber is a first-ever in a public centre in Pakistan. Other facilities like NEDUET-ISP, NEDUET-Wi-Fi, Video Conferencing, and other facilities are also available for the NEDIANs. NED is a coeducation institute and NED has a selective enrollment policy based on student academic records and entry test examination.

IVS was registered as a non-profit institute by a group of architects in 1990 and chartered by the Government of Sindh in 1994. IVS is recognized as the second-best Institute for Art and Design by HEC. Our Neighbor India has a population of over 132 crores with over 4354 Universities including 9 among Top 500-1000, 253 among 1001-5000, and 274 among 5001-10000. Surprisingly China with almost the same population as India has a total of 2596 Universities which is 1758 fewer Universities than India.
Where Pakistan has a population of over 22 crores with over 343 Universities including 50 among Top 1001-5000 and 41 among 5001-10000 only.
